Symbolism is the representation or second meaning to describe or inform the object it is portraying. Examples of symbols go from marketing brands to representing country's and sporting events. for example, the five hoops aligned symbolize the Olympic games and unity. The scarlet ibis is a bird that is mainly seen in South America, their habitat is tropical islands. "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst concentrates on the relationship between two brothers. Doodle the younger disabled brother was very kind hearted and did not really get influenced by no one except his big brother. Big brother wanted his little brother, Doodle to walk, and be normal because he was ashamed kids will tease him about his brother. The story takes place during the World War 1 era which was a very drastic time. Big Brother ashamed of Doodle encourages and basically forces Doodle to learn to walk. Big Brother and Doodle practiced everyday after school and kept it a secret to surprise his parents and people at school. Doodle began making major progress and eventually started walking. Big Brother wanted Doodle to surprise their parents by walking into the dinning room walking by himself and he did. His parents were shocked and amazed, Mother immediately bursted into to tears and hugged both of them and thanked Big Brother for being an inspirational person for Doodle. Big Brother felt the guilt of teaching Doodle to walk because he was ashamed of him, not because he felt sorry and wanted to help. Big Brother along with helping Doodle walk was also building a relationship with Doodle and felt bad because he taught him to walk for the wrong reasons. The next day Doodle spots a uncommon bird on the tree and shows Big Brother, 5 minutes later it fell and died because that was not its habitat. One day after school they decided to walk home, the weather was really bad and there was a storm with heavy rain. Big Brother ran and told Doodle to do the same, Doodle could not keep up and was hit by a falling tree. Doodle cried out "Brother dont leave me, please dont leave... Brother!!" and Big Brother was scared and kept on running. He did not hear his cries and went back for Doodle. Big Brother found his bottom half stuck under the tree and tried to pick him up but he was dead. Big Brother was crushed and started crying and felt like he abandoned his Little Brother who looked up to him. Doodle is compared to a rare and pretty scarlet ibis because when it finds itself in a hostile enviorment it dies.
